"Imperfect Symmetry" is a concept album about the false harmony between light and darkness, happiness and sadness. In its roots, the concept of Imperfect Symmetry was inspired by a visit I took to a Buddhist Shrine in Japan, where the buildings are constructed to be visually flawless and symmetrical to the naked eye, but upon closer inspection, you'll always find one piece that doesn't fall into place, or is at odd length from the others. This is intentional, to follow the philosophy that one should never strive for perfection, because it is always unattainable. Of course, I'm no Buddhist, and I visited Japan over 6 years ago, but that was the inspiration I took from the experience.

I conceptualized the idea of the album in 2013, on the that same day I created the album artwork and laid out a tiny track list of songs that I had written casually with no intention on releasing them. However, I was very inspired by artists at the time and the incredible albums that I was listening to. I began to see that albums could be presented as a complete work, not just a collection of songs, but a fully realized creation. It was something that I knew I wanted to be a part of.

In the music of the album I hope you can reflect on your feelings of the day, and create your own meanings and interpretations for what the music means to you. Free your mind and let your consciousness sleep. And, if you have an Imperfect Symmetry within yourself, breathe it all in and then let it go.
